STEM Outreach

Michelle Xie and Mary Xie have created a STEM outreach program. As passionate advocates for STEM education, particularly for women in STEM, they aim to turn advocacy into action.

They developed STEM Outreach workshops and presentations for six eighth-grade classes at Oak Grove Middle School, covering topics such as various job opportunities in computer science and accessible online educational resources. To make learning interactive, they created several STEM-related games for students. During the workshop, they introduced a ‘Coding through an Adventure’ game, where students learned about conditional and if-else statements through an engaging narrative. They also presented two math-focused games, ‘Calculate Your Age with Your Number’ and ‘Addition King,’ which taught students about mathematical patterns and algorithms.

Since the beginning of 2024, Michelle has been offering free weekly tutoring at her local library, focusing on STEM subjects such as math through calculus, science, and computer science.
