Michelle Xie, along with her sister Mary Xie, founded Her STEM Journey in 2023. While Mary graduated high school in 2025 and is now in college, Michelle continues to lead the initiative, carrying forward their shared mission of fostering inclusion and gender diversity in STEM.

Her STEM Journey is a project dedicated to fostering interest in STEM, particularly among women. Its founders aim to highlight the relevance of STEM not only in education but also in everyday life. This initiative seeks to promote the benefits of STEM, dismantle gender stereotypes, and provide resources to empower everyone to reach their goals. Together, they encourage young women to embrace the beauty of STEM and inspire them to pursue their dreams. This is Her STEM Journey, supporting each individual in forging her unique path to explore her passion in STEM.
Motivation:
From memes to posts, we all know people think of STEM to be hard. It can be difficult, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t doable. With the right help and motivation, we can use STEM for innovation and achieve success. The founders of this initiative hope to help those who are interested and also promote STEM education to everyone.
Study Finds shows that “Gender-interest stereotypes such as ‘STEM is for boys’ begins in grade school. By the time they reach high school, many girls have made their decision not to pursue degrees in computer science and engineering because they feel they don’t belong.” This affects their self-confidence, and primary research findings indicate that girls and young women struggle to envision themselves in STEM roles. Due to self-doubt, numerous capable and intelligent women have redirected their focus to alternative domains, leading to a scarcity of women in STEM fields.
The hope to inspire women to pursue their dreams in STEM fields is the standing motivation behind Her STEM Journey. STEM isn’t separated by gender. It’s about where we are and where we’re going. With motivation and encouragement, we can all have our own STEM journey.
